How can you say that the internet, the personification of free speech, is a threat to conservatives? Conservatives, like you said, attempt to conserve principles within an organization, in this case the United States. How are you able to completely overlook the Bill of Rights, namely the first amendment, which conservatives constantly trumpet and defend? Your argument is flawed and teetering on the fringe. Have you stopped to consider who it is your talking about? Two old men who were thrust into the age of the internet and expected to assimilate- oh yes, they want to control the internet. Chances are they dont know half as much about the internet as a 10 year old kid. They simply know the value of information and are aware of how freely it it passes hands on the internet. You mentioned that they were military men; does that not further support my point that these men know the value of information? Their jobs were to protect the United States, her people, and her secrets. Can you not see that that is what they are doing? God forbid you lose an ounce of what you call freedom in the virtual world for the sake of a nation, and your own nation at that. And honestly, the internet is responsible for a decline in intelligence and useful knowledge. But that's a topic for another day.

They know we are breathing down their necks and they are feeling the heat. I recently wrote that their attempts to control the internet is not a solution to their fears, but rather a measure of their desperation and outright lunacy.
Any forceful intrusion to control the internet will result in more blowback than they will be able to handle and will only accelerate their fall from power.

Looks like they're just genuinely scared that so many are learning about how corrupt these people are. Typical that this Rockefeller guy would wonder if it'd be better without an internet, he'd probably love it if we were all completely ignorant of how messed up these people have made things for everyone, so they could carry on with minimal resistance.

I have no doubt that to the conservative and authoritative minded the internet is a massive threat. It's easy though isn't it to slip into generalized assumptions about things, for example the BBC who you quote extensively is a government sponsored (or maybe socialist to some) media empire, so rather than corporate lackies following governments agenda they are government lackies following what? I guess maybe they're socialist and the ultimate 'liberal' media.

All said in good fun, but i hope i make a point. We are all conditioned in our thinking and beliefs and on the whole it makes perfect sense to us and is naturally justified, so we notice what corroborates our existing beliefs.

The world and all in it doesn't fit into any black and white plurality, it's just not that neat.
