Toward a Holistic Cosmology of the Planetary Culture

MAC Calendrics as Prime Candidate for a Holistic Cosmology

In my report entitled The Distinctions between Natural and Artificial Calendar Systems: One Enlightens; the Latter Enslaves, I begin to relate how calendrics is of supreme cultural relevance and in particular why Maya calendrics is of paramount importance to our understanding of how our reality, our lives and the universe is organized.

The article you are now reading initiates my treatise on The Science of Synchronicity in which I present my case for the foregoing statement. This article introduces you to the socio-cultural and philosophical implications of what is meant by a Holistic Cosmology.

The Cosmos: the universe seen as a well-ordered whole; from the Greek word kosmos ‘order, ornament, world, or universe’, so called by Pythagoras and his disciples from their view of its perfect order and arrangement.

Cosmology or the study of the order of the universe is akin to a worldview. A cosmology being only more expansive in scope.

A physical cosmology as defined by the sciences seeks to understand and explain the laws, origin, composition, functions, interactions and developmental dynamics of the universe.

A mythosophical cosmology as used within the context of religion, spirituality, myth and philosophy seeks to understand and explain the “laws” origin, composition, functions, interactions and developmental dynamics of the human socio-cultural universe within the context of the physical universe.

A Holistic Cosmology would be a fusion of physical and mythosophical cosmologies.

creations-myths

“The material of myth is the material of our life, the material of our body, and the material of our environment, and a living, vital mythology deals with these in terms that are appropriate to the nature of the knowledge of time.” ~ Joseph Campbell

The Planetary Myth

A culture reflects the group’s cosmovision (cosmology-worldview) and vice versa.

A holistic cosmology would incorporate and relate our knowledge of the scientific and mythosophical domains into a singular and viable planetary cosmovision.

Thus far humanity can be described as a collection of competing enthnocentric interests. One of Joseph Campbell’s final statements asserts that the only story “worth telling” at this stage of human socio-cultural evolution is the story he called “the Planetary Myth.”

The Planetary Myth is the story of humanity as a whole.

According to Joseph Campbell, the Planetary Mythos is a prerequisite for the next stage of humanities socio-cultural evolution.

It is likely we are witnessing an intermediate stage of human-socio-cultural development as it transitions from a fragmented, enthocentric and confused collection of competing interests to a better informed cooperatively based planetary culture.

A Cosmovision

A Holistic Cosmology means a synthesis of the scientific and mythosophical domains.

A bona fide Holistic Cosmology applies to everyone regardless of ones cultural particulars or personal beliefs.

Holistic Cosmology is an evidence based understanding of how the universe is ordered and how that order shapes our mythosophical realm.

A Holistic Cosmology would not be a set of untested beliefs or cultural instructions, but a body of knowledge offering the greatest amount of social coherence to those who have out grown the regionalism of cultural specific beliefs. A Holistic Cosmology would be for those ready to embrace a unified understanding of what it means to be a singular humanity

A Holistic Cosmology would apply to everyone because we are all made of the same energy-matter the universe is made of and therefore subject to the same laws, dynamics and principles governing the interactions of all energy-matter configurations (EMCs).

Those of us who study the intricacies of Maya-Meso-American Calendrics (MAC) have come to the conclusion that the story told by the orbital cycles of the planets, moons and stars is much more than just the story of motion, its laws and its periodicity.

There are a few basic principles underlying the movement of all the objects we can see in the heavens and on earth.

Movement in this context means motion and the relative inter-actions between all moving bodies beginning with subatomic EMCs and ending with the macro-atomic EMCs known as human beings.

260 day tzolkin

The 260 day Tzokin in 2 dimensional code form. Cosmos: the universe seen as a well ordered whole. I will expand upon that definition by saying that the development of human culture is wholly integrated with the "well ordered whole". The Tzolkin reveals the order of the "well ordered whole" inclusive of the human socio-cultural domain.

The Tzolkin Code

At the center of MAC lies the 260 day Tzolkin cycle. The Tzolkin cycle is found within the interrelating orbital cycles of the earth, the sun and venus.

However, we are at somewhat of a loss to explain a self-existing 260 day cycle anywhere within our day to day observational reach. The human gestational period is 266 days. A close correlation with a very telling clue.

There are a few instances of a 260 day cycle and I will share those in later reports.

Besides our inability to yet find a salient 260 day cycle the most peculiar aspect of the Tzolkin is the Meso-American attribution of specific characteristics to each day of the Tzolkin cycle.

The Tzolkin is comprised of 3 primary sub-cycles. A 4 color sequence 4 day cycle. A 13 day cycle denoted by a numerical value of 1 through 13  and a 20 day cycle denoted by 20 distinct mytho-symbolic forms or archetypes.

The question is, Are the attribution of characteristics a cultural invention or are the attributed characteristics inherent features of nature itself. Features which are perceivable by all who care to tune in and with tangible affects to be felt by all regardless of ones awareness of such naturally present characteristics.

As I have stated in previous reports I and many other Maya calendrical researchers are of the conviction that the ancient Meso-Americans discovered cyclical patterns and other palpable qualities in the theme content of the days events and in the general mode of time’s unfurling, if you will.

Qualities repeating every 4, 13 and 20 days. 260 being the total number of permutations and the master number containing the key nested numerical vectors of the 3 subcycles of 4, 13 and 20.

Those key nesting vectors are the numbers 26, 52, 65 and 260. You will find that the vectors are multiples of the subcycle numbers and that all of the key numbers nest or converge at 260.

Numbers represent qualities as much as they represent quantity in the MAC cosmovision. More on this subject in the section on Synchronicity

The Meaning of All This?

Getting into tune with the universe and staying there is the principal function of myth.

~ Joseph Campbell

Everything is determined, the beginning as well as the end, by forces over which we have no control. It is determined for insects as well as for the stars. Human beings, vegetables, or cosmic dust, we all dance to a mysterious tune, intoned in the distance by an invisible piper.”

Albert Einstein

Getting in tune requires sensing the ebb and flow of the universe.

The cosmovision of ancient Meso-America as encoded by the Tzolkin provides us with the precise rhythm by which to dance to the pipers tune.

The implication of detectable and verifiable characteristics repeating over definable periods of time points towards the discovery of laws and dynamics that must by logical necessity also act at the most basic levels of reality.

That is—reality as our perception and understanding of what constitutes our universe and how it operates.

Tracking the Tzolkin enables one to verify the characteristics attributed to each day. There is also very quick way to prove the Tzolkin and I will share that method in a later report under the Science of Synchronicity heading.

mythical-creatures

All mythosophical cosmologies are an attempt to give meaning and in doing so explain the when, how and why of the mystery of existence.

It is upon the foregoing premises that I propose the MAC system to be much more than just an elaborate calendrical methodology for tracking the seemingly meaningless motions of planets, moons and stars, but rather I assert that meaning aggregates in the complex interactions of all phenomena in motion.

After all it is the present moment sum of all energy-matter interactions inclusive of the food and knowledge we process that enables us to formulate an idea, utter the words and in doing so ascribe meaning.

Meaning is the glue bonding together, in a coherent and intelligible manner, the elements of our mythosophical world.

It is for the reasons and arguments presented herein that I propose that the Maya-Meso-American Calendrical (MAC) system is best understood as a genuine Holistic Cosmology—a synthesis of science and the mythosophical.

This report serves as the gateway article into the Science of Synchronicity section of the Emergent-Culture website and blog. For the most coherent understanding of the topics described herein I recommend the reports listed under the Synchronicity section be read in sequential order. As of this update I have published parts one through five.

Dreams are private myths, myths are public dreams

….Joseph Campbell

The Four Functions of MYTH:

1 The first is the mystical function…realizing what a wonder the universe is, and what a wonder you are, and experiencing awe before this mystery…
2 The second is a cosmological dimension, the dimension with which science is concerned–showing you what the shape of the universe is, but showing it in such a way that the mystery again comes through…
3 The third function is the sociological one–supporting and validating a certain social order. And here’s where the myths vary enormously from place to place…It is this sociological function of myth that has taken over in our world–and it is out of date…
4 But there is a fourth function of myth, and this is the one that I think everyone must try today to relate to–and that is the pedagogical function, of how to live a human lifetime under any circumstances. Myths can teach you that.

260 day Tzolkin cycle

Perhaps one possible answer to the mystery of the 260 day Tzolkin cycle could be the simplest answer. The earths “year” (orbit) has changed in length over time.

The old civilisations have left records of the length of the time it took the earth to go round the sun and they all vary. For cultures to build the amazing structures they did but not be able to record accurately how many days it takes the earth to go round the sun is not possible. For them to record different totals means that the earths orbit has changed. They were not recording the length of a “belief year” but the physical year.

How can the Earths orbit not just change once but slowly change? In a Gravity Universe that scientists tell us we live in this is not possible but then again a stable planetary Newtonian system is also impossible but that does not stop them and us believing we are in one. Gravity is the weakest out of the natural forces yet is suppose to control the Universe.

There is a growing idea called the Electric Universe theory that believes electricity rules the universe, especially through space plasma. Plasma is electrically charged gas. All the stars and our Sun are made of Plasma and “Space” is plasma. Around 99% of our universes mass is plasma. The unmeasurable, unseen, undetectable made up to balance the scientific books idea of Dark Energy and Dark Matter supposedly count for 96% of the Universe. Could we already have found this missing energy and mass?

In what sort of job could you get something 95% wrong (5% correct) and be still believed and funded after making up something like Dark Energy? Yet some of the ideas in this website will be considered lunatic or crazy!

And of the 260 day Tzolkin cycle and the length of the year? Maybe it was 260 days in their time but the Solar Systems electrical circuit and energy then changes and to balance out the planets orbits move slightly. This could also account for our “ice ages” and “hot ages”.

But then again 260 is a magical number and there is power in numbers and frequencies. They may have chosen this number due to those reasons.

Regarding the 260 day cycle. There are a few examples of it. It’s simply very difficult to detect but self-existing nonetheless in various ways. In near future reports I will share the known examples of the 260 day cycle as well as a system to detect its presence.
