The Untold Legacy of Western Culture
The Bad News and the Good News
Within the framework of emergent culture dynamics, The Work, refers to the social and ecological domains most afflicted by the catastrophic policies of the prevailing culture. The purpose of The Work is to identify and act upon the socio-ecological spheres in need of urgent reform and or, restoration.
The agencies in greatest need of reform are the governmental institutions responsible for promoting disastrous, backwards, unjust and or, corrupt policies. The areas in need of restoration are the socio-ecological domains bearing the brunt of prevailing culture policies.
We will be faced with one mounting crisis after another as long as people remain indoors with eyes glazed over as the pretty anchor woman smiles and cajoles with co-anchors after reporting the dismal scene encountered by billions the world over.
Little do they (TV viewers) know that every social and environmental crisis reported is due to the actions of the same organizations filling the airwaves with every sort of nonsense, distraction and falsehood imaginable.
The bad news is:
There are no human or ecological domains left untouched by the scorched earth policies of the prevailing culture.
The problem is entrenched political and corporate power structures hell bent on doing business as usual regardless of the consequences.
The good news is:
There are many organizations and individuals working for social and ecological justice.
The problem is there are not enough of us involved in the clean-up, salvage and reform effort.
This news section of the Emergent-Culture News website delivers reports and headlines which identify…
- the sources of our social and environmental problems;
- the solutions currently in use or available;
- where and what the needs are;
- socio-cultural deficiencies;
- the people in action;
- justice served.

Goldman Prize Winner Saves One of the World’s Most Important Drinking Source
Via AlterNet.org How one activist took on President Putin and oil interests to save 20 percent of thew world’s freshwater reserve. Moscow — In a land where oil dominates politics and environmental issues barely make the agenda, it was a veritable coup.
Concerned with plans to route a major oil pipeline within 900 yards of pristine Lake Baikal, Marina Rikhvanova and her Baikal Environmental Wave advocacy group led thousands of people into the streets of nearby Irkutsk; collected over 20,000 petition signatures; and summoned “flash mobs,” which used tactics such as handing bottles of murky “Baikal water” to embarrassed officials.
After two months of protests, President Vladimir Putin pointedly asked the chief of state-owned oil company Transneft on TV whether an alternative route was possible. “If you are hesitating, then there is such an opportunity,” Putin told the quavering official. The pipeline was subsequently rerouted.
