Prostate Health News Digest
EC-Mens Health: Vol. 1, Issue 1 Jan/05/09
Here at the Emergent-Culture News Website we shift through hundreds of evidence based health stories, group them by relevance and then prepare link digests just like the one you are reading.
The links are intended to be used as leads into cutting edge research areas that pertain to the matter of prostate health.

The information we provide will help you make the most informed decisions on the best products and services available and the actions you need to take to maintain, protect or restore your health.
Special note to younger men: Prostate cancer rates are rising and the USA is leading the way in the number of annual cases worldwide. While prostate cancer is usually associated with advancing age there are life style measures you can take now to significantly lower your chances of developing prostate cancer at any age. High risk groups are advised to start testing at 40 years and others at 45 years of age.

The Promise of Effective Prostate Cancer Management with Unpatentable Plant Derived Extracts and other Natural Compounds.
My fathers ongoing encounter with prostate cancer. The hope of cutting edge research and the angst of dealing with the uninformed.
My 68 year old father is currently dealing with an early stage slow growing prostate cancer. The type that is eligible for watchful waiting. I did extensive research on extremely safe natural compounds that have been found to be effective in the slowing, stopping or reversing of prostate cancer growth. I then put together a supplement regimen based on my findings.
My father has been taking his supplement regimen for almost a year now. During this period he had his PSA levels checked every 3 months.
The results have been very promising. His first PSA test, 3 months after he started his supplement regimen, dropped a whopping 1.9 points from his last pre-treatment PSA test level of 5.1. His second PSA test at the 6 month mark dropped from 3.2 to 3.0. At the nine month mark his PSA test went up to .4 points to 3.4.
The small rise in that last test result triggered my uninformed mother to increase pressure on my father to “just take it out”. She had been opposed to his non-conventional treatment since day one without doing a stitch of her own research. Sustained opposition in spite of the downward trend of his PSA levels.
Doctors measure the efficacy of any prostate cancer treatment by noting how PSA levels respond. Using that rule of thumb, his supplement regimen seems to be having a positive effect on his prostate cancer. My fathers PSA levels had been rising steadily for several years without a decline. It would be very safe to surmise that the supplement regimen was having a positive effect.
However, my mothers unwarranted disconformity with my fathers unconventional treatment option was taking its toll and he has now decided to go with external beam radiation therapy to relieve himself of her discord. Marital stress is also a factor to consider. My parents are immigrants and English is not their first language. They are from the old school of thought that left health care solely in the hands of “health care professionals”.
It is my firm belief that an individuals primary health concern should be to take full responsibility for his or her own health. Modern medicine has demonstrated many success’s, but modern medicine has also become big business.
There is a great deal of evidence that indicates that certain medical establishments are more interested in profits than they are in the best treatment options.
Stay tuned as I will be covering the untrustworthy aspects of the medical establishment (pharmaceuticals, FDA, AMA and others) in future articles.
We will never know just how much the supplement regimen would have helped my father manage his cancer. The latest research is showing some very promising preliminary results in the prevention and treatment of prostate cancer with plant derived extracts and other natural compounds.
If there is enough interest I will publish an article that documents all of the various supplements that my father took during his brief experiment. I would also display his PSA test results in that article. Thank you for reading and please feel free to leave comments or to e-mail me directly.
