Introducing Tzolkin Dynamics:: The Building Blocks Of Synchronicity, The Cosmos, Life And Human Society: ARTSOS 7

The Carina Nebula

Tzolkin Dynamics is the systems architecture underpinning my work on the Art and Science of Synchronicity (ARTSOS) and the laws governing human personality and human interrelationship dynamics or the Art and Science of a Social Physics (ASSP).

ARTSOS is based upon my understanding and studies of the Tzolkin Cycle-Code or the core calendrical component of the Maya-Meso-American Calendrical (MMAC) System.

My work further elaborates, further defines, clarifies and builds upon the basic properties of the Tzolkin Cycle-Code as per the Arguellen (Dr. Jose Arguelles) interpretation of the MMAC Tzolkin

The systems architecture I speak of was purportedly developed by Dr. Jose Arguelles, author of The Mayan Factor: Path Beyond Technology, in his “Dreamspell” account of the MMAC Tzolkin. I say purportedly because Arguelles is known for not giving credit or proper attribution for work not his own. It is quite likely that what I refer to as Tzolkin Dynamics was known, but never published by anybody else. Arguelles also introduced a radical understanding of the Tzolkin along with a dating sequence that differed from the accountings of the traditional Tzolkin counts presently in use.

The situation of differing Tzolkin Cycle sequences poses one of the greatest challenges to the academic standing of MMAC, since each camp asserts that their Tzolkin sequence is the correct one.

There can be only one correct Tzolkin Cycle sequence much like there is one correct solar calendrical sequence that takes us from the winter solstice to the summer solstice with unerring precision and constancy. My work offers empirical validation of the Arguellen Account (AA) of the Tzolkin Cycle and in doing so invalidates the other Tzolkin counts.

In 1987 Arguelles was perhaps the only researcher on the subject of the Tzolkin’s truer nature and its deeper implications. MMAC researchers John Major Jenkins and Carl Johann Calleman did not show up until several years later and their work on the Tzolkin goes no where near the depth of Arguelles’s work on the subject.

My study of the available information on the subject during the 90′s years led me to conclude that Arguelles was by leaps and bounds the foremost scholar on the Tzolkin Cycle-Code. So I set out to verify his work since he had introduced his account of the Tzolkin without any empirical evidence.

What I refer to as Tzolkin Dynamics pertains specifically to the qualitative attributes Arguelles assigned to the 4 colors, 20 symbols and 13 “tones” of the Tzolkin Cycle-Code. Arguelles also presents the color and numerical relationships shared between the three Tzolkin Cycle-Code components. The colors, symbols and tones are codes representing the elements of the three Tzolkin Cycle subcycles.

MMAC

Giant stone heads weighing between 25 and 55 tons were created by the Olmec civilization. Please note the African features. It is my belief that Africans rafted over to the Americas and became the founders of the Olmec culture. It is not an accepted theory that Africans rafted over to the Americas but how else are we to explain such distinct features. Further down I show a statue of a Maya King that to me looks completely Asiatic--almost Samurai like. That would be in keeping with what is an accepted migration theory. In my assessment the Maya are a fusion of African and Asiatic peoples.

The Maya-Meso-American Calendrical system or MMAC is the entire body of calendrical knowledge assembled by the Ancient Meso-Americans or the people of prehispanic Mexico and Central America.

Tzolkin Cycle-Code glyphs have been found engraved on stones dating to about 2500 BC. Knowledge of the Tzolkin Cycle has been firmly established among the mother culture of Mexico, the Olmecs, whose civilization lasted from about 1400 BCE to 400 BCE. The Maya and Aztec Civilizations followed.

Just who and precisely when the Tzolkin Cycle was discovered is unknown, but it was the Maya who developed Meso-American calendrics to its highest degree. It is for the uncertainties and facts mentioned herein that I have proposed the phrase Maya-Meso-American Calendrical system to denote its place of cultural and geographic origins as well as to give credit to the Maya for their monumental contributions to calendrics. The Tzolkin Cycle forms the corner stone and foundation of MMAC.

The Cycle

The Tzolkin Cycle refers to a mysterious calendrical cycle discovered by the Ancient Meso-Americans. A cycle that has yet to be empirically validated or adequately described. A key facet of my work seeks to empirically verify the Tzolkin Cycle and the various articles I have written and will continue to write seek to describe the Tzolkin in the greatest possible light.

I have three ongoing scientific studies that focus on the Hyper-Day component of the Tzolkin Cycle as they relate to corresponding increases in seismic, solar and volcanic activity. There are various ways to verify the Tzolkin and the information that I will begin publishing, starting with this article will enable anyone to verify and experience what is without question the greatest natural discovery of all time.

The Code

A chart of the Tzolkin Cycle Code sequence. Parts 2 and 3 of Tzolkin Dynamics will enable you to make sense of this chart and verify the Tzolkin for your self.

The Tzolkin Code refers to the codified schema devised by the Ancient Meso-Americans to represent the Tzolkins duration, its subcycles and its experiential (subjective-objective) characteristics.

Tzolkin Code components (color sequence, icons and numbers ) are symbolic stand ins and descriptors for elemental features and structures of what is perhaps the Universe’s operating system when we the view the Universe from a holographic and computational perspective.

The Sub-Cycles

The sub-cycles composing the Tzolkin Cycle are codified using a color, symbol and number system. Four colors are used to represent a 4 day cycle. Twenty symbols are used to represent the 20 day cycle and 13 numbers one through thirteen are used to represent the 13 day cycle. Twenty cycles of 13 days or sixty-five 4 day cycles equal one 260 day Tzolkin Cycle.

Tzolkin Dynamics

Tzolkin Dynamics is the term I have selected to designate the systems architecture developed by Dr. Jose Arguelles in his Dreamspell account of the Tzolkin Cycle-Code.

Tzolkin Dynamics are the operational, sequential, numerical and chromatic (color) interrelationships between the 4 colors, the 20 archetypes and the 13 tones comprising the Tzolkin Code.

Tzolkin Dynamics is a well defined set of rules enabling a testing methodology.

Tzolkin Dynamics refers to the mechanics and building blocks of synchronicity, the cosmos, life and human social reality as described by a whole systems naked eye perspective of the universe’s workings.

The Arguellen Account

At this time there are several Tzolkin counts in use. One count says that today is X day and another says that it is Y day and still a third account asserts that it’s Z day in the sequence. The Arguellen Account refers to the Tzolkin Cycle sequence and interpretation put forth by Dr. Jose Arguelles.

Arguelles burst onto the world scene in 1987 with his publication of the Mayan Factor where he introduces his understanding of the Tzolkin and simultaneously organizes a world wide event called the Harmonic Convergence as a ritual ushering of a dawning new era to coincide with the closure of the Maya Long Count Cycle that ends on Dec. 21, 2012.

Whole Systems

See Systems theory, a transdisciplinary approach that abstracts and considers a system as a set of independent and interacting parts or wholes within parts and parts within wholes.

ARTSOS part 2 Self Organizing system from Atoms to Humanity is a good reference to gain a better understanding of what is meant by systems within systems and a demonstration of just how the Tzolkin’s numerical composition finds its correspondences at the various scales of the energy-matter spectrum. It is my contention that the Tzolkin Code reflects an irreducible whole systems, naked eye cosmology of the phenomenal world.

By irreducible I mean that its system components cannot be simplified any further from the whole systems perspective of naked eye observations.

Ancient Meso-Americans cosmology reduced the entire phenomenal world to 4 basic elements and they are color, form, movement and recurrence.

Those elements are represented in the Tzolkin Code as a 4 color sequence, a 20 symbol sequence and a 13 tone sequence respectively. Recurrence is evidenced by the cyclical nature of our reality and that’s reflected by the Tzolkin cycle and its sub-cycles.

Most of us don’t live or learn our lives peering through microscopes to gain our day to day understanding of reality, therefore the most intelligible and meaningful cosmology to most humans is one that does not require sensory augmenting tools, a special aptitude or that one be exceptionally bright to understand the model.

Once we begin to peer into the microscopic realm scientists begin to reduce something such as light into electromagnetic radiation, wavelengths and photons. A vernacular appropriate to the tools and mode of investigation used to study light, but inappropriate when trying to relate the layperson to the phenomenal world they are accustomed to. Particle physics is a whole systems understanding of the atomic and subatomic realm.

Electromagnetic radiation, wavelengths and photons have little meaning for the layperson and are not easily visualized conceptual constructs. Those descriptors constitute another scale of the energy-matter spectrum and are useful and meaningful for applications at that scale. For more information on this subject please see ARTSOS 3 Toward a Balanced Worldview: Order out of Chaos and the Emergence of a Holistic Science.

ARTSOS

The Art and Science of Synchronicity is what emerges from study of Tzolkin Dynamics. ARTSOS is what you learn by applying Tzolkin Dynamics and tracking the Tzolkin Cycle.

ARTSOS can be defined as the knowledge and study of how energy-matter comes together, develops and evolves and moves about to create increasingly complex systems of organization (multiple simultaneous events) and the resultant coherent and meaningful interaction among the various systems.

The Tzolkin Cycle embodies synchronicity because it seems to be the complete set of whole systems laws determining the position, momentum, sequence, affinity and disaffinity between all particles and particle agglomerations (objects organisms)—that is from the sub-atomic realm to the galaxy realm and everything in between.

In the human domain we perceive synchronicity as the convergence of two or more acausal, non-linear or seemingly unrelated events and the meaning we perceive or the significance we may attribute to said events.

Until one learns the Tzolkin Cycle-Code one is only capable of noticing a mere fraction of the countless synchronicities that happen everyday. The Tzolkin Cycle-Code implies that realty unfolds (evolves/develops) in a specific sequence of specific properties and rhythms. Soon to follow articles under the series heading of Tzolkin Dynamics will allow you to verify the Tzolkin’s purported validity for your self.

I refer to the whole set of Tzolkin components and study methods as the The Art and Science of Synchronicity. The science pertains to a testable model with a yet undefined range of applications in the large group, institutional and scientific realms.

At the end of this article you will find a range of applications at the personal and small group realms. The art side pertains to the abilities students will develop to varying degrees with regards to sensing the direct and indirect interconnectivity between all phenomena and in one’s own application of Tzolkin knowledge.

ASSP

The Art and Science of a Social Physics is also based on Tzolkin Dynamics. Knowledge of ASSP is acquired by studying Tzolkin Dynamics and following the Tzolkin Cycle.

ASSP may be defined as the knowledge and study of general human social interactions, relationship dynamics and universal personality characteristics as described by Tzolkin Dynamics.

Universal Personality Characteristics (UPC) are human character traits that we all possess to one degree or another. Traits such as nurturing, communication, playfulness, inquisitiveness, extroversion and introspection. The full list of attributes may be found in the table found at the bottom of this article.

The fundamental claim made by present day adherents of Meso-American calendrics is that each day has specific qualities and attributes and that these qualities and attributes repeat every, 4, 13, 20 and 260 days. Its adherents also believe that a person takes on the qualities and attributes of the day on which he or she was born.

Tzolkin Dynamics offers a clean, neat and systematic method by which to empirically validate such claims. ARTSOS goes a step further by saying that it is not so much that ones birthday imparts qualities as much as one is a product of a universe governed by a specific assembly procedure in which the conception and assembly period are just as important as the birthdate in determining personality character traits.

We have been taught that gene-environment interactions are responsible for our personality. That is true, but we ought to consider that genes and their environment are subsets of universal or grander assembly process. An assembly process that begins at the subatomic realm and that then proceeds to build more complex atomic assemblies called molecules.

Molecules go on to become simple organisms and simple organisms combine to create ever more complex organisms. It is my contention that the rules or algorithim governing the attractive and repulsive forces at every scale of the energy-matter are described by the Tzolkin Cycle-Code.

In part two of ARTSOS I lay an empirically based argument for how a system that purports to track subtle cycles in nature may also underlie the mechanism behind synchronicity, general human relationship dynamics and universal personality characteristics. In ARTSOS part 5 I begin to relate the Tzolkin Cycle-Code to a few highly regarded scientific models supportive of the idea that the Universe may operate according to some sort of code.

If that is indeed the case then human beings as products of a code driven universe must also be driven by the same code or set of operational dynamics. Operational dynamics we may call the laws of physics or the laws of evolutionary development. Laws that living organisms are bound to obey. At the molecular level those laws are known as the genetic code and at the human level the genetic code is translated into the Tzolkin Code.

Gearing up to learn Sign Language

Do you know the meaning of these symbols and mythic images?

The code language of pre-modern, pre-literal scientific people was pictorial/metaphorical (mythosymbolic). Modern institutional science uses a truly arcane and obscure code consisting of letters, numbers and other symbols as a short hand way of describing aspects of our world.

However, the natural language of the brain is pictorial. When have you had to read while dreaming to visualize your dreams? When have you ever first imagined the letters s, u, and n to imagine the sun?

Our understanding of preliterate cultures is poor because we have become mythic illiterates while becoming literate. Herein lies the chasm in the modern worlds appreciation of preliterate societies and in the understanding of preliterate knowledge systems.

In ARTSOS part 4 , I examine the classic Western worldview of disconnected things (dualist/separatist). A view that is characterized by a noun (object) fixated language structure. In contrast Native American verb based languages reveal a seamless world of continuous, connected, cyclical and interrelated processes.

In learning the Tzolkin Code you will confront the contrasts I have just shared. I remember my own early experiences when learning to track the Tzolkin and I must stress that patience is required. Learning the Tzolkin Code forces a major restructuring of ones core reality construct (CRC). Restructuring ones CRC is not a painless or easy thing to do. For more on CRC’s please see ARTSOS 1 and 3.

Allow yourself to track at least one complete Tzolkin Cycle before losing patience or dismissing the system. We in the West have been taught to think in disconnected, linear, object focused and separatist terms.

However, current scientific thinking and certain experiences tell us that the past, present and future exist simultaneously. We are also learning about non-local phenomena, circularity, determinism, the holographic paradigm, a self-organizing universe, cellular-automata, sub-atomic entanglement, epigenetics, fractality, interdependence and chaos as a complex order system to name a few cutting edge scientific concepts and discoveries.

By learning and tracking the Tzolkin Cycle-Code you will see and feel first hand how the Tzolkin embodies all of the aformentioned aspects of our marvelous and magical Universe. Learning and tracking the Tzolkin Cycle-Code is a unequaled exercise in mindfulness, fascination and not to mention the utility in applying the foreknowledge of upcoming Thematics and Energetics. Those two terms are defined in ARTSOS 8 Thematics and Energetics: A Cosmology of Color, Form, Movement and Recurrence.
