Those of you familiar with my work know that I study Maya-Meso-American Calendrics (MAC). The MAC system is not what we in the Western world understand as a calendar.

Only the most superficial details about MAC have been popularized as the now infamous “Mayan Calendar” and its cycle renewal date of Dec. 21, 2012.

The poorly informed and opportunistic have attributed many erroneous meanings to the “end of the Mayan calendar” cycle.

The general and popular misconception is one of spectacular natural catastrophe. And there is not a single shred of evidence to substantiate any of the spectacularly catastrophic scenarios.

From my vantage point the catastrophe is upon us and it’s called Western Civilization version 1 gasping for its last few breaths as it strives to maintain the status quo at all costs.

What more calamity do we need in order to recognize that the world as a whole is in the grips of a serious and unprecedented socio-environmental crisis?

You might ask how is the world crisis, the solar sunspot cycle, critical junctures, 2012 and the Maya-Meso-American Calendrical system (MAC) related.

This post relates the 5 aforementioned elements, but I will not get into deep technical details. Though, I will offer links for those interested in further reading. [Update: I have issued Critical Junctures Update #2 (CJ#2) entitled Exploring Tipping Points and "HYPER-DAY'S  in Human Systems Critical. In CJ#2 I review what has transpired between mid-September and mid-December 09.

Also out is Critical Junctures Update #3 entitled Tzolkin Cycle HYPER-DAYS, The Haiti Earthquake. Each new update sets forth new advisories and reviews what has transpired between updates.

The Theme

In short MAC calendrics is about tracking natural cycles and bio-rhythms that in essence guide the evolution of all things. Cycles with themes and detectable to anybody interested in investigating.

The themes are repeating and they happen at every scale of the energy-matter spectrum. For example, cell division is the thematic equivalence of a woman giving birth, a couple separating or a business opening another branch.

Those examples are acute transitional stages in the process of life's unfolding and they are characterized by hyper-activity and distress. There are many other themes, but the theme particular to the present time is crisis. Crisis implies the search for resolution and relief. Transformation, birth, rebirth, emergence (emergency) and transition are also themes closely related to crisis and resolution.

Critical Junctures

Dec. 21, 2012 is the day a Mayan time cycle of 5125.26 years resets to day 0.  But what does that mean to us? The Ancient Maya realized that an earth year is useful only to track our orbit around the sun.

The Maya or some proto-Maya group discovered a 260 day cycle (Tzolkin Cycle) underlying curious synchronicities in the orbits of venus and earth and in the occurrence of eclipses.

For those interested I am thoroughly addressing the nature of the 260 day cycle in the series entitled The Tzolkin Code and the Science of Synchronicity.

This article is not a deep explication of the MAC system, but rather a brief look into what I call critical junctures.

Critical junctures (CJs) occur at the point when a system reaches maximum instability and must then reset or reorganize itself in order to re-stabilize.

CJs occur at every level of the energy-matter continuum.

Examples of CJs are the point at which avalanches occur, wars break out, babies are born, cells divide, stock markets fall, earthquakes occur, volcanoes erupt or when you have to relieve yourself. It is the point at which the dam breaks or when the "proverbial camel's back is broken". Tipping point is the popular term of the moment to describe critical junctures. A critical juncture alludes to the dynamic convergence of requisite factors inducing the tipping point.

A well understood scientific principle underlies the idea of critical junctures and it goes by the name of self-organizing criticality.

The Birth, "Rebirth" Development Cycle

Properly understood the MAC system can be used to track a host of different phenomena and the critical junctures at which events of any kind are apt to occur.

The gestational period of a human being is 266 days. From a critical junctures perspective that means that the Tzolkin cycle is closely correlated with one of the most dramatic stages of human growth --our intrauterine development and birth or entry into our next stage of development.

That the most complex cycle (the Tzolkin Cycle) known to us is related to the developmental period of life's most complex organism is not a random coincidence. I will delve into the relationship between the Tzolkin Cycle and the human gestational period in the later chapters of the Science of Synchronicity (ST).

The theme implied by a 260 day cycle renewal is birth or rebirth. Birth (replication) and rebirth (growth) may be understood as the fractal expansion of a system as it grows and develops over time. According to the MAC system the most notable junctures occur at increments of 260 days or its fractal equivalents--multiples of 260 days.

The Galactic Birth Cycle

According the Maya our Sun conjuncts with the galactic center every 26,000 tun. A tun is 360 days. 26,000 tun equals approximately 25,626.28 years.

Western astronomy offers no consensus on the precessional cycle and one will find a range of 24,000 to 26,000 years for what is commonly known as a Platonic year or the Equinoctial cycle. Wikipedia pegs the precessional cycle at 25,765years.

We do know for fact that the Sun is traversing the galactic equator at this very moment. Dec 21, 2012 marks the date on which the sun enters the last 4 years of its 36 year journey across the galactic equator.

The galactic equator is assigned a one degree width and it takes the sun 36 years to enter and exit the one degree wide galactic equator. The Maya depicted the Dec. 21, 2012 as the culmination of a “birthing event”.

It is a mytho-symbolic way of describing astronomically what was to take place at the conclusion of what is known as the Long Count cycle. It takes 5 Long Count cycles of 5125.26 years to complete a Maya precessional cycle of 26,000 tun.

260 days is the number of days in the core MAC calendrical cycle known as the Tzolkin. 260 days is a fractal of 26,000 tun. Much like cell division is a fractal of a woman giving birth.

By my optimistic estimation, birth or the emergence of a Planetary Culture is the theme implied by the convergence of a renewing 26,000 tun cycle with humanity poised on such a critical and hyper-dynamic stage.

Cell division and human birth are critical and hyper-dynamic states respectively of micro-systems and macro-systems. Humanity as a whole is a mega-system in the grips of some potentially transformative state. A Cooperative Planetary Culture or a Murderous Military Culture: You get to choose.

In other words humanity stands at a crossroads of unprecedented magnitude—planetary scaled breakthroughs or breakdowns. Breakdown is necessary to transformation, but to what degree are we going to allow Western Leadership to continue trashing the Planet and destroying life.

Either we will breakthrough and establish a true global village of increasing universal cooperation or we continue business as usual and we will see increasing examples of breakdown in the form social degeneration, widespread warfare and collapsing ecosystems.

Humanity as it stands is a fragmented and incoherent system dominated by a non-ecologically integrated and essentially dysfunctional ideology which I collectively refer to as the Judeo-Christian Culture Complex aka Western Civilization/Culture.

Most of you reading this article know that the present and dominating world order is suffocating the life out of the planet.

Millions around the planet including most scientists recognize that the current world order must be transformed in order to accord with the ecological principles of the planet and the good will of the Earth’s majority. The socio-paths leading us are an extremely small minority.

The only other alternative is a cascade of increasingly catastrophic scenarios.

The tension and various pressures we are all feeling are in some way related to the essential struggle between the demise and dysfunctions of the current world system and the emergence of a new world system.

The former is bound and determined to maintain the status quo at all costs and the latter is compelled by a sense of justice and righteous urgency to transform the current world order.

The needed changes are so at odds with the current world order that only very large scale collective action will suffice to say “enough is enough” to the marauders trampling everyone and everything under the iron boot of the “Western Way”.

The only way out from the perennial nightmare of Western culture is a Planetary culture in accord with the ecological principles that have created and sustained our magnificent home—the earth–for billions of years.

I am not predicting that we will transition entirely from one state to another during the next three years.

But I am saying that the essential tension and struggle felt on planet earth is between the old world order of predatory domination and a desiring to emerge new world order founded on ecological and egalitarian principles.

We can’t have both. It’s either more of the former or growth of the latter. One grows at the expense of the other. The only difference is that we all win if ecology and egalitarianism prevail.

We have but two options–either utter breakdown into a hellish fight for the dominance of a dying planet or breakthrough in which the people reclaim control of their respective governments and insist upon a solution oriented and ecologically founded socio-economic system.

Solar Max on the Way

We do know for certain that solar cycle maximum periods (solar max) are accompanied by heightened degrees of social unrest, the outbreak of war and recessionary periods. We are entering solar max as you read this article and it is expected to peak sometime near the end of 2012 and the start of 2013.

My study of MAC system, the solar sunspot cycle, Timewave theory, ALTA program, trend tracking and other methods enables me to at this point in my studies approximate windows of time when large scale events are likely. As we approach the nexus of Dec. 21, 2012 the many pressures we are all feeling in various ways will continue to increase.

It is likely that we may not experience a collective sense of relief until some time mid to late 2013. And that collective sense of relief is dependent upon significant gains being made by the emerging culture.

Between now and late 2012 we will begin to see increasingly dramatic events unfold as the current world system strives to hold on to power via the same mechanisms that have sustained it for thousands of years. And that is waging war and social exploitation/oppression by those in power.

The Social Weather Forecast

My scientific nature predisposes me to caution when it comes to talking about forecasting future events. Nevertheless the various methods available to me coupled with my experience has encouraged me to begin taking small steps in the direction of forecasting.

One of the most critical features of forecasting has to do with the degree of specificity.

We will be enabled to be more specific on the nature and timing of event actualization as we better understand the natural processes at work in determining just how and when events are nudged over the edge of potentiality and into the realm of actuality.

Until such a time our forecasts will be structured with large windows of time and less specific details.

I have learned from my studies of Maya-Meso-American Calendrics that it is relatively easy to know and specify the thematic content of a given time period.

The details of everything I have thus far talked about are being released in a series of articles under the title heading of The Science of Synchronicity. The primary purpose of this article is to give broader context to the release of my first Critical Juncture Advisory.

Critical Juncture Advisory

Sensing a period for the likely occurrence of significant and large scale events I wanted to go on the record as having anticipated a specific window of time for the occurrence of certain kinds of events.

So on Sept. 11, 09 I went on the record by issuing a very modest advisory via twitter.

Then on Sept. 23, 09 I got surge of boldness and I released an updated Critical Juncture Advisory on twitter with more information. Using a special tool that allows one to write beyond 140 characters by storing the balance in a link. I posted the following on twitter.

At this point my understanding compels me to give a heads up, if you will, to the strong possibility of national and internationally scaled events along the lines of war breaking out, deepening economic crisis, strong earthquakes and energetic political uprisings.

Additionally chances are good that we will also begin to see the sun finally wake up from its extra long slumber. Meaning that the number of sunspots could begin rise dramatically.

What has happened since the posting.

This review covers a time period between Mid-September and Mid October 09. Links to more recent updates are found in the introduction to this article near top of page.

Well it seems things got off to an earlier start.

Under energetic political uprisings:

On 21 September 2009, at more than 2600 events in 135 countries across the globe.

On Sept 24th the G20 protests went into full swing

Guinea’s government murders 157 protesters

Under the sun waking up:

On Sept 21 the first sunspot in three weeks emerged.

Solar flare and member of new solar cycle 24

Then on Sept 23 a second sunspot emerged.

The sun has been unusually devoid of sunspots during a time when much more activity is expected due to the stage of the current solar cycle.

A few days after I posted the Sept 23 Critical Juncture Advisory (CJA) I posted the following CJA update to include the following information.Something I forgot to include in my Critical Juncture Advisory was the possibility of a False Flag event or some other GovCorp staged event or process*.

At the moment the gigantic economic powers behind Israel are chomping at the bit to attack Iran even though there is no evidence that Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons. Yet you have all this empty rhetoric coming from the US and Israel about its nuclear weapons program. You can be sure that they want to attack Iran for the same reasons they attacked Iraq.

At this point it could be enough cause for the Israeli’s to attack Iran simply because it refuses to abandon its nuclear energy program.
Whatever the case we must hold suspect everything surrounding the potential justifications for an attack on Iran and for the continuance of war in Iraq, Afghanistan and the start of new wars elsewhere.
*By staged process I mean the warnings, sanctions and UN proceedings that Iran cannot hope to comply with because they are not guilty of any wrong doing.

Western History is the History of Organized Warfare for the Sake of Empire.

It must be understood that Western Civilization as we know it is a 4500 year old history of empire building and demise.  The building and maintenance of empire necessitates the plundering of others resources, excessive taxation, social oppression and economic exploitation. Empire building has also brought us to the point of irreversible ecological catastrophe.

We are at a critical juncture in the most all encompassing sense of the word and the scale is planetary.  The US is not reducing its already bloated military budget and it has plans for what is known as the Long War. Therefore we should expect more war mongering by the United States as the militaristic beast demands it be fed.

Unfortunately 4 of the 5 anticipated event alerts have been realized with more peak events on the way between now (mid-Oct 09) and mid December 09.  There will of course be other periods of intense activity after the window I have specified. I am not claiming special powers. I am simply highly attuned to sources of information which allows me to at this point make modest, but useful and socially relevant forecasts.

Some of these events such as the planned for G20 protest and others mentioned are circulated in the media and therefore require no special forecasting savvy. What is not known is the full magnitude and intensity of said political events.

I will affirm that future uprisings will only get more intense and increase in scale as the world crisis deepens. We have been in a crisis state for the last 2 years and we have yet to see the full fledged emergence of solar max cycle 24.

There is a direct correlation between the solar max and the outbreak of wars, recessions and political uprisings. There are hints and rumors of a looming attack on Iran.

It is all very reminiscent of the rhetoric just before the war on Iraq. The wars against Iraq and Afghanistan were both launched during the last solar maximum of early 2000. The 1st Gulf War was started during the solar max of the early ’90s.

The Vietnam war was launched in 1959 during the solar max of the late ’50s and early ’60s. As we know the 1960s also saw unprecedented political uprisings in the US.

Many economists say that we have yet to hit the bottom of the ongoing recession. The world’s people are becoming increasingly aware that their respective GovCorp is to blame for our dire socio-economic and environmental situation.

The democratization of information and communication systems will continue to fuel the growth of a better informed public.

An increasingly informed public is at odds with empire building. A confrontation looms. It is inevitable. The question is when? The imminent solar max should bring us some of the most momentous and definitive events in the history of humanity thus far.  Whether or not those near future events are significant enough to course correct from our present and perilous path awaits to be seen.
