THE PLANETARY PERSPECTIVE

Putting the Pieces Together

Emergent-Culture.com is structured to help provide a clear, coherent and engaging “big picture” assessment of the Planetary – Human Condition.

The Emergent-Culture platform is designed to inform, instigate and motivate solution oriented collaboration on the issues deemed hazardous to culture(s) and the planetary ecology we are part of.

Giving Coherence and Meaning to early 21st Century Cultural Developments

A new culture is yearning to be born. A culture based on values that will carry us forward into a world fraught with increasing challenges. There are however a few great obstacles in the way of this new culture.

Those obstacles are the inertia of history, habit, tradition and the leadership agencies who presently hold the reigns of power.

The consequences of that inertia are staring us square in the eyes at this very moment as our scientists and concerned citizens sound the alarms of ongoing and impending natural and social catastrophes if we don’t change our ways.

As it is humanity is beset by problems of every sort that will keep growing until our leadership institutions focus our collective resources (tax money) on the common good.

The Emergent-Culture website exposes the problems by revealing the deeply entrenched and nearly invisible socio-cultural mechanisms that keep emerging cultural values from taking root and thriving. Emergent-Culture.com also offers solutions to overcome the inertia and active suppression of emerging cultural values and practices.

Emergent-Culture.com is divided into six sections; each with its particular focus.

Each section helps the reader understand the key domains of Western culture and the socio-cultural forces driving either socio-cultural stagnation or revitalization. Social stagnation is the province of the prevaling culture and social revitalization is the mark of emerging culture.

Movements such as Occupy, the Arab Spring, Acampados, Idle No More, Peer 2 Peer, and many others like them is precisely what Emergent-Culture.com is all about. Emergent-Culture.com has been calling for a unified effort to change the disastrous policies of Govcorp. Govcorp is a handy abbreviation that reflects the merger of Government and Corporations.

I called for a movement to unite all good will movements 3 years ago in an article of the same name as the only viable solution to the global predicament. The aforementioned movements seem to be gradually coalescing into larger and larger coalitions.

Aside from my focus on the socio-cultural dynamics of prevailing and emerging cultures and the fundamental nature of the ongoing global crisis, there are two specialties subjects of mine.

One is the section on the Art and Science of Synchronicity and the other pertains to The Legend of 2012.  The Legend of 2012 goes well beyond December 21st, 2012 or the day that the Maya Long Count Calendar, aka “Mayan Calendar” reset.  In order to appreciate the story of 2012 one must hack through an enormous amount of nonsense and psuedo-science.

I have done just that and the various articles found under the Legend of 2012 clarify its true meaning.

If you have questioned your culture and are not satisfied with
its answers and solutions then you are a member of the

cultural movement this website dedicated to.

MISSION STATEMENT

Emergent-Culture.com’s mission is four fold.

To monitor, report on and nurture the emergent culture movement.

To monitor and report on the transition from the CWS* to a Planetary Culture.

To elucidate the overriding socio-cultural dynamics of the CWS.

To research, promote and develop
humanitarian and ecologically sensitive modes of culture.

* CWS stands for Current World System.
You will find articles describing and defining the CWS and a Planetary Culture in the sites various sections.

A guide of the site’s sections follows.

THE SIX SECTIONS OF EMERGENT CULTURE.COM

Links to each section are found on each page of EC.com in the primary navigation bar found underneath the banner at the top of each page.

EMERGENT

SECTION 1: Emergent deals with the most vital visions and solutions to the notion of cultural renewal and improvement. Our hope of a better world lies with the emerging cultural values of egalitarianism, gender balance, non-violence and ecological balance.

Like any other organism or system, culture must be revitalized in order to offset the inevitable buildup of obsolete, stagnant and toxic cultural practices. Learn about what’s up and coming, help spread the word and get involved.

THE   GLOBAL   CRISIS

SECTION 2: This section deals with the consequences of Western civilizations core cultural practices. I explore the dynamisms at work and the decisions we will have to confront either by choice or by neglect as the problems begin to hit closer to home.

At least once a quarter a I Issue one of my variously titled Global Awareness Summaries. A round up of the most telling events and trends in the social, economic, environmental, national and international realms.

The zones of devastation and dysfunction where our collective and individual effort would do well to reform what is injurious to us and our world.

KNOW   YOUR   CULTURE

SECTION 3: Those of us alive today are the inheritors of a cultural process that is over 5000 years old.

You can be sure that what you were taught in school about Western culture is a whitewashed version of history.

In this section you will learn about the social-cultural dynamics that create all of the artificial inequities you see in the US and abroad. You will learn about the dark underbelly of Western history. Learn about your culture and help reform its injurious ways.

THE ART AND SCIENCE OF SYNCHRONICITY

SECTION 4: The section on Synchronicity is my attempt to place the concept of synchronicity on a scientific foundation. Carl G. Jung only defined what characterizes a synchronistic event. He conjectured that there might be a deeper order of reality underpinning synchronistic phenomena.

My work on the Art and Science of Synchronicity reveals the underpinnings and mechanisms of synchronicity.

THE   LEGEND  OF   2012

SECTION 5: I have been studying and tracking the 2012-Mayan Calendar (2012-MC) phenomena ever since it first came onto the public mind field in 1987.

There is an enormous amount of confusion, sensationalism and misunderstanding surrounding the closure of a Maya time cycle on D21- 2012 and the nature of the Maya calendrical system itself.

My work on the Art and Science of Synchronicity is based on my pioneering work on the core and least understood part of the Mayan Calendar System—the Tzolkin Cycle.

CURRENT   EVENTS

SECTION 6: This section covers the developing stories with a potential for either negative or positive large scale social and biospheric implications. This facet tracks the overarching macro-trends reshaping our world.

UPDATE: Presently the most important planet wide and socially relevant current event topic is the formation and development of the growing Global Debt Jubilee Movement.

WHY KNOWLEDGE OF SOCIO-CULTURAL DYNAMICS IS A MATTER OF CONCERN FOR ALL

Making sense of Western Civilization.

museum-piecesWhat is culture? Is culture a trap?

How do cultures develop, grow, evolve and die?

How does culture shape us? How do we shape culture?

How did the human world get to be the way it is and does it have to stay this way?

These and other important questions about culture are the focus of Emergent-Culture.com

The culture of focus is the mega-culture of Western Civilization. This is not due to any enthnocentrism of mine, but rather it is the culture I have inherited and find myself in the midst of. I use the terms Western Civilization and Western Culture interchangeably.

Western Civilization is the cultural inheritance of at least 50% of the worlds population. Western Culture by virtue of its legacy and present condition may also be considered as our master and chains.

Emergent-Culture.com is dedicated to assist you in the understanding and transformation of the culture you have inherited.

If we wish to create a better future for ourselves and all concerned, then learning the ropes of socio-cultural dynamics is must for any individual or group striving to promote socio-ecological justice.

The Modern Cave Walls of Culture

Cultural engineering is not a college course, but the term serves well to define what the political and religious leadership of Western Culture has practiced for thousands of years. At present our culture is manufactured in assembly line fashion on Capitol Hill, Wall Street, Madison Avenue and Hollywood.

Emergent Culture Philosophy

Nature, community, the arts and spirituality were once the fountainhead of all cultural creativity and inspiration.

In the context of cultural studies, the term emergent culture is almost exclusively associated with the late Raymond Henry Williams, scholar, novelist and social critic. He is highly regarded and often cited within academic circles as one of the leading social theorists of the 20th century.
Specifically Williams refers to emergent culture as the result of processes where “new meanings and values, new practices, new significances are continually being created.”
Cultural Creatives is term coined by the sociologist Paul Ray and psychologist Sherry Ruth Anderson to describe a segment of the population that has emerged from the prevailing culture to embrace a more universal and progressive worldview on most matters of cultural expression.
It may be said that the emergent culture dynamic gives rise to the cultural creatives. Respectively, one is a process and the other is the result of said process.

ankor-wat-by-stuck-in-customs

Emergent culture will not be defined by the brands
we consume nor the socio-economic status
we achieve, but by the values we uphold.

The emergent culture dynamic roared to life during the 1960′s. It is true that emergent culture as identified by Williams is always forming to one degree or another. What was significant about the 1960′s was the magnitude of popular support for cultural revision.

At that time we saw the birth of the ecology movement, the second wave of feminism and the rise of significant public sentiments against the four-horned beast of rapacious militarism, plutocratic governance, Western imperialism and mindless consumerism.

The unprecedented evolutionary importance of emergent culture becomes self-evident when one compares the emerging cultural values and offerings with those of the prevailing culture .

About the Author and Founder of Emergent-Culture.com

Greetings and Welcome! Planetary Citizen Rohaan Solare at your service. Cyber-networking my way around the world wide web and nourishing the emergent culture movement of the nascent Planetary Culture as it strives to take hold and offer a vision of a future we can look forward to.

My blog writing and book authoring initiative is the result of a question I asked myself over twenty-five years ago when I was a psychology major at a Northern California University.

The question was….

“How did the human world come to be what it is today?”

In other words, what are the factors that condition cultures into being what they are and in particular Western culture? Then a curious thing happened to me on my way to higher education. I came across two books that would demolish what I had learned thus far about the nature of the culture I had been born into.

The first book was written by a man who 23 years after his death is still considered to be the world’s foremost authority on comparative worldviews as conditioned by spiritual and religious thought – Joseph Campbell.

Joseph Campbell’s work would overturn the worldview I had inherited, and thus compel me to develop my own based upon my understanding and direct experience of the world versus what I had been told about the world.

The other book that would greatly alter my perception of the world is entitled ‘Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television’, written by former advertising executive Jerry Mander.

In his landmark book Mander demonstrates how television is one of the greatest threats to our social freedoms and to our physical, mental and emotional well being. The other all encompassing casualty of television would be culture in general.

Mass culture would become a sales pitch, and an unending series of disconnected hyper-stimulating images all designed with the intent to induce mindless consumption of products and system serving ideas.

The fruits of such a culture would be over-consumption and all of the attendant socio-ecological and economic ills glaring us straight in the face at this very moment.

Mander’s research undermined the credibility of BIG Business and BIG Government in one fell swoop.

I came to understand television as an instrument of social control and exploitation by those in power over those unaware of the true nature and purpose of not only television, but of print and radio broadcasting as well.

After reading those two books and in conjunction with my own observations of the society in which I lived… I could not help but think that I had been born at a time when society had become nothing more than a mere resource to be mined and controlled at will by the religious and secular leadership.

I also came to learn that the field of psychology supplies the necessary knowledge needed to better manipulate the unwary citizen and consumer of mass media information.

I did not want to contribute in any way to a cultural system that preys upon and mercilessly exploits its own people or any people for that matter.

So I left institutional learning and entered into a 25 year journey, and counting, of self-education in world history, the brain-behavioral sciences, the multi-disciplinary field of cultural anthropology, Mesoamerican calendrics, or the science of time, change and synchronicity, and a smattering of sciences with the I hopes that I might make sense of the human-planetary condition.

Emergent-Culture.Com is the result of my time spent researching how the human cultural condition came to be what it is, magnify earthwhat keeps it the way it is and what we might need to do in order to bring about the kinds of changes demanded by our present circumstances.

In closing I want to thank the reader for taking the time to get acquainted with me.

Thank you for visiting and please come again.
